Family of Woodstock Chocolate Lovers' Social
Please join us for Family of Woodstock's 6th Annual Chocolate Lovers' Social and Benefit Auction on Sunday, March 19th, 2017, 12-3pm at the fabulous Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern in Saugerties, NY.
The event supports the essential services provided by Family’s Adolescent Services Programs. Family’s Adolescent Services provides extensive case management to a broad array of youth and adolescents, ages 4-24 years, including those youth in the Ulster County jail, on probation, at risk of dropping out of school, homeless, or with significant substance abuse or mental health issues. We also provide youth with extensive life and vocational skills training and employment assistance. Since 1976, Family House has been the only emergency shelter for homeless youth in the county. Family also runs two transitional living programs for homeless adolescents, ages 16-20 years, Midway I in Kingston and Midway II in Ellenville. These programs assist youth to advance or complete their education, gain life and vocational skills, address any long standing issues, and become employed while in the program.
The event will also seek support to address a critical issue that is devastating our community- the widespread use of heroin. Too many of our citizens are using this debilitating drug, trying to escape their pain. Our society cannot afford to lose these valuable individuals to overdose and death as a result. We believe that Family can play a critical role, both in preventing this terrible addiction and intervening to help promote recovery. We envision using Family’s walk-in centers throughout the county to provide a safe, confidential access point for community resources, education about recovery, and Narcan, which can sometimes reverse the lethal effects of heroin overdose. We believe that by offering these services, we will help people begin the road to recovery.
