Name: GO FLOWER GO: Plant collection and preservation workshop with Kristen Garnier
Date: June 15, 2019
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
Calling all plant-aholics, weed-watchers, nature-lovers, and creative types! Botanist Kris Garnier of Go Flower Go is offering a three-week workshop merging her enthusiasm and love of science and art through the fascinating, abstract world of plants. Up your plant identification skills, take field notes, gain interesting plant facts and learn the steps and preservation techniques used to create beautiful and informative herbarium specimens. To start off our first session, we will collect prolifically growing plants from the Byrdcliffe Art Colony grounds, take field notes, identify and press them. In the next two sessions we will learn mounting techniques and detailed information on our collected plants with a diverse collection of books provided. At the third meeting, we will finish mounting our specimens and conclude with student presentations. The end result will be frameable keepsakes and a deeper appreciation of the plants growing in our region. Microscopes will be available each session to examine some of the plants collected more intimately, revealing the gorgeous symmetry and intricacy of each.
